Dr. Peňafrancia Cano is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine-Philippine General Hospital. Dr. Cano is formerly an Associate Professor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. Currently, she is the Chief of the Division of Regional Anesthesia (RA). She underwent a fellowship in Molecular Biology at the Kobe University College of Medicine in Kobe, Japan in 1996 and also a fellowship training in Transplant Anesthesia at the Uniklinik Bonn in Germany in 1997. Because of her keen interest in Regional Anesthesia, she pursued further training in the subspecialty. She underwent preceptorships at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago; Wake Forest Baptist and Medical Center in North Carolina; Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, Oregon; Centre Clinical, Soyaux, France and Aarrhus University Hospital in Denmark. She was able to pass and obtain the European Diploma in Regional Anesthesia (EDRA) from the European Society of Regional Anesthesia last 2014 in Seville, Spain. She is the current President of the Philippine Society of Anesthesiologists and the President of the Manila Academy of Regional Anesthesia (MARA), an organization founded by anesthesiologists who pioneered the ultrasound guided regional anesthesia in the Philippines. She is also the President of the Point of Care Ultrasound - Special Interest Group called SCAN (Sonography for Critical Care and Anesthesia). Dr. Cano is a co-founder of RA-Asia, an organization of RA experts in Asia
