Pavel Michalek was trained in the Czech Republic and received his full Board Certification in 2000. Between 2005-2010 he was a Lead Consultant Anaesthetist for Clinical Audit, Paediatric Anaesthesia, and Airway Management in Antrim Area Hospital, Antrim, Northern Ireland. In 2010, he received "Clinical Excellence Award" from Northern HSC Trust. Since 2010, Pavel has been working in General University Hospital which is a large tertiary teaching medical center in the heart of historical Prague.
He was awarded the DESA (Diploma of the European Society of Anaesthesiology) in 2008. In 2013 he graduated with distinction as a “Master of Science” (MSc) in Pain Management and Practice at the Queens University in Belfast. In 2021 he completed his management education at the Business Institute in Prague and received the degree „Master of Business Administration“ (MBA). Pavel Michalek received the Fellowship of EAMS in 2019.
His main areas of interest are cardiothoracic and vascular perioperative care, airway management, regional anaesthesia techniques, interventional pain management, and ultrasound use in anaesthesiology and intensive medicine.
Pavel has been involved in teaching and research for many years. He has authored several books, many articles, and has worked as an Associated Editor or reviewer for national and international medical journals. When not working, he likes to play tennis, explore mountain summits, or play his electroacoustic guitar. His winter season is always devoted to all types of skiing experiences.
